Helmsmen Toastmasters Club Meeting 2830 – 12 May 2016 Minutes

Business:

1. Toastmaster of the Day for our next meeting 2831, Thursday, May 19th is Lillian Wilkinson. Please contact Lillian by email or use Easy-Speak at
helmsmen.easy-speak.org to sign up for other meeting roles. Remember your turn will come to be the TMoD…so follow the Golden Rule and be urbane!

2. Officer Elections. 1st Meeting in June , JUNE 2nd. Start thinking about being
an officer for July 1 – December 31. Great leadership experience can be yours and is a requirement for the TM leadership track.
Please let Forté and Elizabeth know if you’d like to be part of the Executive Council – no experience required.

Positions: President, VP-Education, VP-Membership, VP-Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant at Arms.

Training Available: 2 hours of training will be available at different locations in the NCR beginning in June at Toastmasters Leadership Institute and is FREE and is required to get leadership credit.

Additional training: previous officers can mentor you.

3. Kelly Sargeant, (www.kellysargeant.com), who came in 3rd at the World
Championship of Public Speaking in 2014, will be at the Pentagon on August
16, 2016. She will be giving a presentation on her journey to the
International competition. There is also an event planned with Kelly during
the evening of August 16th at the Crowne Plaza National Airport in Crystal

4. TM International Convention, August 17-20, Marquis Hotel, Washington,
DC. Registration is now open at
https://www.toastmasters.org/Events/2016-International-Convention.

5. TMoD Schedule. Please contact our VP-Education, Elizabeth Femrite to sign up for future
Toastmaster of the Day roles. If you have an issue with the schedule please try to switch with another TM or call Elizabeth.

Takeaways:
1)TM International dues is going UP in October from $36 to $45 for October 2016-March 2017;
(Copy of Letter from Int’l President will be emailed out soon. All TMs of records in February, received the letter/email.)
2) HTM dues is going DOWN in October from $9 to $5 for October 2016-March 2017;
3) Total renewal dues will therefore go from $45 to $50 for October 2016-March 2017;
4) HTM can now accept credit cards; credit card payments will cost person $2 credit card processing fee.
Payment by cash and check are still acceptable forms of payment and come with no fees.
5) Kimberly reminds us that PayPal fee is cheaper than withdrawing money from an ATM.
6) When compared to Dale Carnegie, Local training, TM Educational Program is still a great VALUE!
7) Bank account/HTM is in the green. Well done.

Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in! You can
get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, and Table Topics
Master, Timer, and many of the other duties. During or immediately following
the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in
your leadership book.
