Minutes for Meeting 2756, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday
October 9, 2014

Welcome esteemed guest Jacqueline (Jackie) Wrice,
Jacqueline.w.wrice.civ@mail.mil !

Club Business:

1. Lillian displayed the poster size Competent Communication Chart on the
wall for everyone to see their progress in CC. She plans to work on other
charts such as one for Advanced Communication.

2. SAVE THE DATE: The Division A District 27 Contest will be held Tuesday,
October 14 at the Bloomberg BNA site in Crystal City. Kimberly will be
competing and asked for support from members. Free parking
is available across the street and Metro access is nearby at the Crystal
City stop. Registration is 5:00 to 5:30 pm. Herman Raybon is adamant that
the contests begin at 6 pm! For food/drink, the cost is usually around $7
per person. The contests should be over at around 8 pm. Please come out
and cheer the Area 11 Contest winners!

Winners of these contests will go onto the District Conference contests,
Saturday November 1 from 8:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Details Listed under #4.

3. Elizabeth Femrite mentioned that the club will have a membership drive in
the Pentagon soon; Elizabeth is working with Ryan Harrell on this– more to
come.

4. REPEAT: The District Conference will be 1 November 2014 at
the Radisson Hotel Largo in Upper Marlboro, MD. Cost is $75 until October
13; $90 from October 14-31; $100 the day of the event. The keynote speaker
is Craig Valentine who is an excellent presenter and has a website
http://www.craigvalentine.com where you can sign up for speaking tips.

5. Congratulations to club members who have achieved the goal of Competent
Communicator:, Kimberly Scott, Jerrick Alexander and Jill Shanteau !!

Forest Gump (Carmita Cooke) was our Opener!

Carmita Cooke was our Toast Master of the Day with the theme
“Chocolate” !

Ernie Davis was our Wordsmith with the word of the day: “Conching”
Meaning: the process used to make chocolate (verb)!

Kevin Kloeppel was our Grammarian!

Shelia Heyward-Snipes was our Timer!

Elizabeth Femrite was our Listener!

John Harms was our AH-counter!

Annette Sanks was our Ballot Counter!

Katelyn Kuehl was our Tipster!

Annette Sanks was our Closer!

Annika L’Ecuyer was our Table Topics Master !

Kimberly Scott was our Master Evaluator!

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.
Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM
of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!
You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, and Table
Topics Master, Timer, and many of the other duties. During or immediately
following the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small
evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program — The more we do as individuals, the more goals
our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club
