Minutes for Meeting 2746, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday July 31,
2014

Club Business:

1. Lillian Wilkinson stated we should bring our CC and CL manuals to each
meeting; manuals are useful for description of roles and for tracking
progress in various roles. Lillian received a poster size chart that we
will have mounted that will display everyone’s CC and CL accomplishments.

2. The Club’s Humorous Table Topics Contest will be Sept 11 and the Club’s
Humorous Speaking Contest will be Sept 22. The Club needs a Contest Master
for these events.

3. Herman Raybon reported that DEA Surround Sound Toastmasters in Arlington
(the President is the area 12 Governor) welcomes Helmsmen to come and speak
on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of the month at the Drug Enforcement
Administration Headquarters, 1st Floor, Training/Press Room, 700 Army Navy
Dr, Arlington, VA from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

4. Attached are future dates for TLI training at various locations and
times.

5. Congratulations to Toastmaster Carlos David Arzeno who just published an
article “An Evaluator’s Recipe: Mix these 11 ingredients to produce a savory
speech” in Toastmaster, August 2014!!

Roles:

Annette Sanks was our Presiding Officer!

Jerrick Alexander was our Opener!

Jerrick Alexander was our Toast Master of the Day with the theme
“Non Verbal Messages”

Elizabeth Femrite was our wordsmith with the word of the day: “spontaneous”
meaning
said or done without having planned in advance. (adjective)

Bert Romero was our Grammarian!

Trudie Root was our timer!

Lillian Wilkinson was our listener!

Carl Sabath was our AH-counter!

Herman Raybon was our Ballot Counter!

Carl Sabath was our Tipster!

Jerrick Alexander was our closer!

Jill Shanteau was our Table Topics Master with the theme of “Non Verbal
Communication”!

Sheila Heyward-Snipes was our Master Evaluator!

Congratulate John Harms, Speaker 1, with his speech “The Touching Story”,
Advanced Manual — Storytelling #4; Evaluated by Bert Romero

Congratulate Table Topic Speakers: Annette Sanks, Lillian Wilkinson, Herman
Raybon, Carl Sabath, Forte Ward, and Elizabeth Femrite. (using objects!)

Best Speaker was John Harms !!

Best Evaluator was Bert Romero !!

Best Table Topics Speaker was Carl Sabath !!

Note: The August issue of Toastmaster contains an article on “Convey
Confidence with Body Language” on p. 16.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.
Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM
of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!
You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, and Table
Topics Master, Timer, and many of the other duties. During or immediately
following the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small
evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program — The more we do as individuals, the more goals
our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club
Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for
Helmsmen Toastmasters Club
