Minutes for Meeting 2705, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, September 19, 2013

Please welcome our guest Cory Hancock and Luke Lisell.

Congratulate and welcome our newest Toastmaster Luke Lisell as he joined our Helmsmen Club today.

Congratulations to all our contest participants! We had a lively Humorous Speech competition and an overall successful contest! Our four contestants: Jerrick Alexander, Damien Butler, Ryan Harrell and Yash Sinha.

Congratulations to the winners:

First Place: Ryan Harrell with his speech “Is My Face Too Fat?”

Second Place: Damien Butler with his speech, “I Don’t Run For the Train!”

Ryan Harrell will compete in the next level at the Area 11 Contest to be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the : Bloomberg BNA, 1801 South Bell St., Arlington, VA 22202 (Across from the Crystal City Metro, with “Bloomberg” signage on top of the building) 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please plan to come out and support our winners! Let’s all make a commitment to come out for a great time, whether participating or supporting.

Thank you to all who attended and participated in making the Humorous Speech Contest a huge success!

Business:

1. The winners of our Club contest John Durish (Table Topics) and Ryan Harrell (Humorous Speech) will compete at the Area 11 Contest to be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Bloomberg BNA building located on 1801 South Bell St., Arlington, VA 22202 (Across from the Crystal City Metro, with “Bloomberg” signage on top of the building). It should be a great time to hear 4 or 5 humorous speeches and table topics. There is a small cost for food. This is a great time to support the Helmsmen Table Topics and Humorous Speech Contest winners.
We are Toastmasters!!!

2. Herman Raybon, Jr our Area Governor announced Ryan Avery Workshop – Monday, September 30, 2013, 6:30-8:30, AARP, Washington DC.

3. Division A Humorous Speech And Table Topics Contests, Wednesday, Oct 23, 5:30pm to 8:30pm at Bloomberg BNA, 1801 South Bell Street, Arlington VA 22202

4. Fall District Conference, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza National Airport

5. Dues! Carl Sabath the club treasurer, will be collecting semi-annual dues for the September thru June period. Elizabeth Femrite, Herman Raybon, Jr. and Annette Sanks will help collect dues if you cannot get a payment to Carl Sabath during a scheduled Toastmasters meeting. Please make contact with any of them to remit your payment. We need to complete on-time dues submission by the end of September but no need to wait. Thank you for those who have already renewed!

7. Next Week’s Toastmaster of the Day is Annika L’Ecuyer.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM
of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics
Master, Timer and many of the other duties. Right after the meeting or
during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small
evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals
our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club
Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for
