2013-09-05 Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412 Meeting 2703 Minutes

September 5, 2013

Fellow Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2703, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, September 5, 2013.

Business:

1. Fall Contests are scheduled for September 12 and September 19, respectively. The Club Table Topics contest will be held, Thursday, September 12, 7:30am, Room M-5, Pentagon Library and Conference Center. The Club Humorous Speech Contest will be held Thursday, September 19, same time and location. All members are eligible to participate in both contests except if they happen to be District Officers (sorry, Herman). There are no other requirements preventing you from competing! We have a saying, “You’re not complete until you compete!” Round out your toastmasters experience by competing in one or both contests.

John Harms is coordinating the Table Topics Contest and one of you can get Competent Leader credit by chairing/running the Humorous Speech Contest!

If you wish to compete in either or both contest, please contact John Harms or Damien Butler.

2. Dues Reminder! Carl Sabath, Club Treasurer has begun dues collection for the next six month period (Sep-Mar). He is being assisted in this effort by Elizabeth Femrite, Herman Raybon and Annette Sanks. Please make contact with any of them to remit your payment. We need to complete on-time dues submission by the end of September but no need to wait. Thank you for those who have already renewed!

3. The winners of our Club contest will compete at the Area 11 Contest to be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Bloomberg BNA building located on 1801 South Bell St., Arlington, VA 22202 (Across from the Crystal City Metro, with “Bloomberg” signage on top of the building). It should be a great time to hear 4 or 5 humorous speeches and table topics. There is a small cost for food. This is a great time to support the Helmsmen Table Topics and Humorous Speech Contest winners.

4. Membership Drive coming soon. Since we have recovered from the furloughs, we are looking at holding a Membership drive at the Apex 9/10 or even having one of our great meetings in the upper level lounge area of the Pentagon Main Cafeteria one morning to generate some interest. Please let Elizabeth Femrite know of any membership ideas that we can plan for success and put into action.

5. New Club in the Pentagon! There is a new Toastmasters club being formed and is sponsored by Helmsmen Toastmasters Club. Meetings are on Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm in the Pentagon’s Main Food Court area up the ramp near the Dunkin Donuts. The Club has now met several times so please help spread the word.
