Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2701, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, August 22, 2013.

Welcome guests Stephanie Patterson, Kimberly Scott and Mark Powers. We hope you will consider joining our Club!

Farewell to Mike Quashne as he heads to his new assignment in the Republic of Honduras! We wish you continued great health, happiness and success!


1. Dues Reminder! From the ‘lectern’ of our President, Damien Butler – Carl Sabath, Club Treasurer, has begun dues collection for the next six month period (Sep-Mar). He is being assisted in this effort by Elizabeth Femrite and Herman Raybon. Please make contact with any of them to remit your payment.

2. Fall Toastmasters Contest! President, Damien Butler encourages all Helmsmen to support the Fall Contest by becoming a contestant or volunteering for various roles. The competition will include a Humorous Speech Contest and a Table Topics Contest. The date and other details of our club contest will be announced as soon as it has been determined.

3. The winners of our Club contest will compete at the Area 11 Contest to be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Bloomberg BNA building located on 1801 South Bell St., Arlington, VA 22202 (Across from the Crystal City Metro, with “Bloomberg” signage on top of the building).

4. New Club in the Pentagon! There is a new Toastmasters club being formed and is sponsored by Helmsmen Toastmasters Club. Meetings are on Tuesdays from 5:30pm to 6:45pm in the Pentagon’s Main Food Court area up the ramp near the Dunkin Donuts. The Club has now met six times so please help spread the word.

Eugene Burrell was our Ballot Counter!

Carl Sabath was our Tipster!

Kevin Kloeppel was our Table Topics Master!

Ryan Harrell was our Master Evaluator!

Mike Quashne was our Closer!

Congratulate Mike Quashne, Speaker 1, with his speech, “Moments of Truth,” from the Successful Club Series, Evaluated by John Harms.

Congratulate John Durish, Speaker 2, with his speech, “Uncle Sam Wants You…To Learn a Foreign Language (Part 1), Project 3 – CC Manual Get to the Point, Evaluated by Carlos Arzeno.

Congratulate our Table Topic Speakers: Carl Sabath, Mark Powers, Stephanie Patterson, Eugene Burrell and Kimberly Scott.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Timer and many of the other duties. During or immediately following the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for Helmsmen Toastmasters Club
