Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2700, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, August
15, 2013.

Welcome guests Robert Drummer and Jason McLemore. We hope you’ll join our
club.

Congratulations Damien Butler! Damien completed an advanced speaker manual
the Entertaining Speaker Series. Damien is closer to completed his advanced
communicator designation.

Business:

1. Dues Reminder! Carl Sabath, club Treasurer, gave a “heads-up” that he
will be sending an email to begin dues collection for the next six month
period (Sep-Mar).

2. New Club in Pentagon! There is a new club being formed and is sponsored
by Helmsmen Club. Meetings are on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. , in
the Pentagon’s Main Food Court area up the ramp near the Dunkin Donuts. The
Club has now meet five times so please help spread the word. A flyer with
the Club’s information was provided by Bert Romero to pass on to potential
guest.

3. Fall Toastmasters Contest! Herman Raybon, Area Governor, encourages all
Helmsmen to support the Fall Contest by becoming a contestant or
volunteering for various roles. The competition will include Humorous
Speeches and Table Topic Speeches. We will announce the date of our club
contest as soon as a date is determined.

The winners from our club contest will compete at the Area 11 contest to be
held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Bloomberg
BNA building located on 1801 South Bell St., Arlington, VA 22202 (Across
from the Crystal City Metro, with “Bloomberg” signage on top of the
building).

4. District TLI Training: Monday, 19 August 2013, NRECA, 4301 Wilson Blvd,
Arlington, Virginia, 22203, registration at 6 p.m. Core Training at 6:30
p.m. and Training ends at 8:30 p.m. Please remember if you cannot attend
one of the six District 27 TLIs please attend a District 18, 29, 36, and/or

Journey…Enjoy it!”

Lillian Wilkinson was our Wordsmith with the Word of the Day — “Vacuity”

Yash Sinha was our Grammarian!

Robert Drummer was our Ah-Counter!

Ryan Harrell was our Timer!

Elias Mourany was our Listener!

Jerrick Alexander was our Ballot Counter!

Bert Romero was our Closer!

Katie Dawson was our Table Topics Master!

Jill Shanteau was our Master Evaluator!

Congratulate Damien Butler, Speaker 1, with his speech, “From Curiosity to

by Mike Quashne.

Congratulate Joan Evans, Speaker 2, with her speech, “Oreo Balls”, Project 2
– CC Manual Organize Your Speech, Evaluated by Elizabeth Femrite.

Congratulate Eugene Burrell, Speaker 3, with his speech, “Finding True
Motivations”, Project 4 – CC Manual How to Say It, Evaluated by Steve Hill.

Congratulate Herman Raybon, Jr., Speaker 4, with his speech, “Blame it on
Fitzgerald!,” Project 2 – Advanced Manual Special Occasion Speeches,
Mastering the Toast, Evaluated by Carlos Arzeno.

Congratulate our Table Topic Speakers: Bert Romero, Jason McLemore, and
Yash Sinha.

Best Speaker was Eugene Burrell!!

Best Evaluator was Mike Quashne!!

Best Table Topics Speaker was Bert Romero!!

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM
of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics
Master, Timer and many of the other duties. During or immediately following
the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in
your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals
our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club
