Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2699, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, August 8, 2013.


1. VP Education encourages Helmsmen to use speak easy to request speech, confirm attendance and confirm roles. He promises, “It will not fail you”…A “Checkmark” means you have confirmed your role in easyspeak…where is you checkmark? Try it here…………

2. Area Governor Herman Raybon encourages all Helmsmen to support the Fall Contest by volunteering for various roles. The competition will include Humorous and Table Topic Speeches. More information will be provided on Contest rules, date, times and locations.

3. We have a the new banner “installed” and it’s been proudly displayed since last week. If you have not noticed, please check it out at our next meeting.

4. New Club in Pentagon! There is a new club being formed and is sponsored by Helmsmen Club. Meetings are on Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. , in the Pentagon’s Main Food Court area near the Dunkin Donuts. The Club has now meet four times so please help spread the word. A flyer with the Club’s information was provided by Bert Romero to pass on to potential guest.

5. District TLI Training: Friday, 9 August 2013, GSA Regional Office Bldg. 7th Street Southwest, Washington, DC. 20024, registration at 11:30 a.m. Core Training at 12 p.m. and Training ends at 2:00 p.m.
Monday, 19 August 2013, NRECA, 4301 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, Virginia, 22203, registration at 6 p.m. Core Training at 6:30 p.m. and Training ends at 8:30 p.m.
Please remember if you cannot attend one of the six District 27 TLIs please attend a District 18, 29, 36, and/or 66 TLI. Details at

John Durish was our Timer!

Scott Battle was our Listener!

Jill Shanteau was our Ballot Counter!

Bert Romero was our Closer!

Ryan Harrell was our Table Topics Master!

Annette Sanks was our Master Evaluator!

Congratulate Jerrick Alexander, Speaker 1, with his speech, “Are You My Type?,” Project 1 – CC Manual Ice Breaker Speech, Evaluated Lillian Wilkinson.

Congratulate Herman Raybon, Jr, Speaker 2, with his speech, “Hail Helmsmen,” Project 1 – Special Occasion Speeches Manual, Mastering the Toast, Evaluated by John Harms.

Congratulate our Table Topic Speakers: Scott Battle, Carmita Cooke, Bert Romero, John Harms, Elizabeth Femrite, Joan Evans and Jill Shanteau.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Timer and many of the other duties. During or immediately following the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for Helmsmen Toastmasters Club
