Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2694, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, June 27, 2013.

Welcome to our guests, Carmita Cooke, Elias Mourany and Evangelia Powell! We hope you will consider joining our Club!

Induction Ceremony was conducted in honor of Ryan Harrell. Congratulations, Ryan!

Installation Ceremony was conducted for new Officers for the period 1 July 2013 – 31 December 2013. Herman Raybon was the installing officer for: Damien Butler, President; Mike Quashne, Vice President Education; Elizabeth Femrite, Vice President Membership; Annika L’Ecuyer, Vice President Public Relations; Annette Sanks, Secretary; Carl Sabath, Treasurer; Yash Sinha, Sergeant-at Arms.

Business:

1. Reminder – we are preparing for PENTAF Toastmasters Club to participate in our July 11, 2013 meeting. A Speech-a-Thon type format has been decided upon by the Executive Committee. Annette Sanks will serve as the Coordinator and Elizabeth Femrite will be the Toastmaster of the Day.

2. Helmsmen Toastmaster and current District 27 Evaluation Champion, Carlos Arzeno is preparing a Speech Evaluation Workshop. Please contact Carlos if you can render assistance with video equipment to be used for preparing presentation snippets.

3. Minutes for the May and June Executive Council meetings are attached.

4. Even in his absence, our VP-Education, Mike Quashne, wanted all to know how easy it is for members to use Easy Speak when volunteering to fill and confirm roles or request speech slots. A check mark in Easy Speak means you have confirmed your role and/or attendance for a meeting. Where is your check mark for our next meeting???

5. Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) provides a free training curriculum that is required for all Toastmasters Club Officers. Of course, any member with an interest in leadership can attend these sessions for free as well! See the attachment for current training opportunities.

6. We will NOT meet on Thursday, July 4, 2013. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 7:30am in room B3 of the Pentagon Library and Conference Center. Elizabeth Femrite will be the Toastmaster of the Day

Annette Sanks was Wordsmith with the Word of the Day — “Freedom” – Ability to act freely; the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.

Amy Hunt was our Grammarian!

Carmita Cooke was our Ah-Counter!

Ryan Harrell was our Timer!

Elias Mourany was our Listener!

Katie Dawson was our Ballot Counter!

Carl Sabath was our Tipster!

Forté Ward was our Table Topics Master!

John Harms was our Master Evaluator!

Congratulate Royce Edington, Speaker 1, with his speech, “The Dream,” Project 4 – The Touching Story from The Storytelling Manual of the AC Series, Evaluated by Eugene Burrell.

Congratulate Yash Sinha, Speaker 2, with his speech, “Old Glory,” Project 5 – Bringing History to Life from The Storytelling Manual of the AC Series, Evaluated by Annika L’Ecuyer.

Table Topics speakers were Elizabeth Femrite, Jill Shanteau, Herman Raybon and Katie Dawson.

Best Speaker was Royce Edington!

Best Evaluator was Annika L’Ecuyer!

Best Table Topics Speaker was a tie between Jill Shanteau and Herman Raybon!

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Timer and many of the other duties. During or immediately following the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for Helmsmen Toastmasters club http://reports.toastmasters.org/reports_new/dcp.cfm.
