March 28, 2013

Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2681, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Welcome guests Todd Morisak, Gay Oliver, Kathryn “Katie” Dawson and Allison Maas! We hope you will consider joining our Club!

1. Save the dates – A reminder from our President, Lillian Wilkinson…

Both will compete at the Division ‘A’ International Speech and Evaluation Contest.

b. Saturday, May 4, 2013!!! It’s the 2013 District 27 Spring Conference at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA 22311. The District Conference is an exciting educational and networking event for all District 27 Clubs and Members. See the attachments for Conference Flyer, Invitation, and Registration information. More information to follow concerning an opportunity to have lunch [at the Pentagon] with Ryan Avery, the Reigning World Champion of Public Speaking and to attend a follow-on Public Speaking Workshop with Ryan on Friday, May 3, 2013.

2. Easy Speak – From today’s TMOD, Miriam Michael and our VP Education, Mike Quashne, concerning Easy Speak- As you already know, our club is using a new planning, management, and tracking system. This system requires more input on the part of the user, and helps you to take full advantage of your Toastmasters experience. Users like you can use the system to indicate whether you will or will not be attending future meetings, volunteer, accept, and reject roles, and even schedule future speeches. I know that a new system can be intimidating, so I’ve put together a quick start guide (attached) which gives the basic information on completing the actions required of members. With the help of this system, Helmsmen Toastmasters will run exceedingly smoothly and your educational achievements will be tracked with pinpoint precision. Please take a look at the guide, log into the system, and take some time to look around, I promise that you can’t break anything that can’t be fixed!

NOTE: When following the section entitled “Book a Speech” in the attached EasySpeak guide, the process enters a ‘request’ to speak; it does not automatically schedule you. The VP-E or TMOD will sort through requests and schedule accordingly.

3. Dues! Carl Sabath, our Club Treasurer, is collecting semi-annual dues for the April thru September period. Dues are due by 28 March (that is today!). Elizabeth Femrite and Herman Raybon, Jr. will help collect dues if you cannot get a payment to Carl Sabath during a scheduled Toastmasters meeting.

4. Yash Sinha will be Toastmaster of the Day next week, Thursday, April 4, 2013. We will meet at 7:30am in room B7 of the Pentagon Library and Conference Center.
