Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2679, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday, March 14, 2013.

Welcome guests Bryan Pangle, Todd Morisak, JD Williams and Everett Yuille. We hope you will consider joining our Club!

Congratulate Damien Butler for delivering his 10th speech today and earning the Toastmasters Competent Communicator designation!


1. Congratulations to Mike Quashne, winner of the Area 11 International Speech Contest and to Carlos Arzeno, winner of the Area 11 Evaluation Contest! Both will compete at the Division A International Speech and Evaluation Contest to be held Wednesday April 3, 2013 at 5:30pm at Bloomberg BNA Offices, 1801 South Bell Street, Arlington Virginia 22202. Save the date!

2. Dues! Carl Sabath, our Club Treasurer, is collecting semi-annual dues for the April thru September period. Dues are due by 28 March. Elizabeth Femrite and Herman Raybon, Jr. will help collect dues if you cannot get a payment to Carl Sabath during a scheduled Toastmasters meeting.

3. March 17th is the Helmsmen Toastmaster Club’s 56th birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELMSMEN!

4. Save the date – Saturday, May 4, 2013!!! It’s the 2013 District 27 Spring Conference at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA 22311. The District Conference is an exciting educational and networking event for all District 27 Clubs and Members. See the attachment for Conference Flyer, Invitation, and Registration information. More information to follow on an opportunity to have lunch [at the Pentagon] with Ryan Avery, the Reigning World Champion of Public Speaking, and attend a follow-on Public Speaking Workshop with Ryan on Friday, May 3, 2013.

5. Elizabeth Femrite will be Toastmaster of the Day next week, Thursday, March 21, 2013. We will meet at 7:30am in room B10 of the Pentagon Library and Conference Center.

Tim O’Neil was our Timer!

Todd Morisak was our Listener!

Sandrina Ray was our Ballot Counter!

Annika L’Ecuyer was our Table Topics Master!

Annette Sanks was our Master Evaluator!

Congratulate Damien Butler, Speaker 1, with his speech, “Noun, Verb, Adjective,” Project 10 in the CC manual, Evaluated by Miriam Michael.

Congratulate Yash Sinha, Speaker 2, with his speech, “For the Love of Nation” Project 1 in the Entertaining Speaker Manual of the Advance Manuals, Evaluated by Scott Battle.

Table Topics speakers were JD Williams, Todd Morisak, Cindy Minnifield, and Steve Hill.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Timer and many of the other duties. During or immediately following the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for Helmsmen Toastmasters club
