Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2676, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday,
February 28, 2013

Welcome guests Darryn Disanto, Aisha Woods, April Willis and JD Williams.
We hope you will join our club!

Today we hosted our Evaluation Contest. Congratulations to the winners:

Carlos Arzeno took 1st place!

Jill Shanteau took 2nd place!

Yash Sinha took 3rd place!

Carlos Arzeno will compete in the next level at the Area contest to be held
on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Aurora Hills Community Center, 735 South
18th Street, Arlington, VA 22202, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Plan to come out
and support Carlos!

Congratulations to our model speaker Tim O’Neil with his speech “The
Lifeguard.”

Thank you to all who attended and participated in making the Evaluation
contest a success!

Business:

1.Next week we will host the International Speech contest during normal
meeting time 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Kevin Kloeppel and Amy Hunt will be
co-chairs of the contest and they need speech contestants and many others
helpers. Did you know that you can get credit for giving a speech during a
contest? Speech Contest Rule Book is attached. You must meet eligibility
requirements (para. 2, page 5).

–INTERNATIONAL SPEECH CONTESTS: All members in good standing who have
given at least 6 speeches are eligible to participate. As a contestant, you
give a 5-7 minute speech on a topic of your choosing. Speech must be
substantially original and references must be cited when your material is
not original. Your speech must be within the time limits of no less than
4.5 minutes and no greater than 7.5 minutes. The same warning light times
apply as they do during a normal meeting -Green: 5 minutes, Yellow: 6
minutes, Red: 7 minutes.

2. Dues! Carl Sabath the club treasurer, will be collecting semi-annual
dues for the April thru September period. Elizabeth Femrite and Herman
Raybon, Jr. will help collect dues if you cannot get a payment to Carl
Sabath during a scheduled Toastmasters meeting.

3. We will meet in room B10 in the Pentagon Library and Conference Center
next week.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM
of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics
Master, Timer and many of the other duties. Right after the meeting or
during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small
evaluation in your leadership book.
