Hello Toastmasters!

Minutes for Meeting 2677, Helmsmen Toastmasters Club 2412, Thursday,
March 7, 2013

Thanks everyone who came out today! I know we had a flurry of emails and there was a lot of uncertainty!

We especially congratulate Mike Quashne on completing his 10th speech for his Competent Communicator!


1. We are waiting for final word as to whether the club International Speech Contest
Will be held Tuesday or Wednesday at 7:30am; the room will change as well as Herman Raybon has reserved a
Navy conference room facility. We are asking everyone to provide their preferences as to Tuesday or Wednesday morning
For the contest — please contact Amy Hunt and Kevin Kloeppel.

Please be on the lookout for emails!

–INTERNATIONAL SPEECH CONTESTS: All members in good standing who have
given at least 6 speeches are eligible to participate. As a contestant, you
give a 5-7 minute speech on a topic of your choosing. Speech must be
substantially original and references must be cited when your material is
not original. Your speech must be within the time limits of no less than
4.5 minutes and no greater than 7.5 minutes. The same warning light times
apply as they do during a normal meeting -Green: 5 minutes, Yellow: 6
minutes, Red: 7 minutes.

2. Dues! Carl Sabath the club treasurer, will be collecting semi-annual
dues for the April thru September period. Dues is due by 28 March. Elizabeth Femrite and Herman
Raybon, Jr. will help collect dues if you cannot get a payment to Carl
Sabath during a scheduled Toastmasters meeting.

3. We will meet in room B10 in the Pentagon Library and Conference Center
next week, March 14. By the way, our club’s 56th birthday is March 17!

4. Reminder, Wednesday, March 13, is the Area 11 International Speech and Evaluation Contest.
Please plan to attend to root for Carlos Arzeno and our International Speech contestant.
It will be held at the Aurora Hills Recreation Center, 735 18th St, S at Hayes St in Arlington, VA, just past the
Pentagon City mall, on the Macy’s side of the street.

Bert Romero, Annette Sanks, Annika L’Ecuyer, Mike Quashne, Carl Sabath were Table Topics Speakers!

Mike Quashne was Speaker, completed Project 10, Inspiring the Audience, with his speech “Twelve Notes” !

Carl Sabath was Master Evaluator!

Annette Sanks was Evaluator for Mike Quashne’s speech!

Bert Romero was Closing!

Best Table Topics Speaker was Annika L’Ecuyer!

Best Evaluator was Annette Sanks!

Best Speaker was Mike Quashne!

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot Seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often, so when you are ready to give your speech, let the TM
of the Day know even if you are not scheduled. We can always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics
Master, Timer and many of the other duties. Right after the meeting or
during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small
evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The more we do as Individuals, the more goals
our Club achieves. If you go to Club Central and go to Distinguished Club
Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for
Helmsmen Toastmasters club
