2012-07-12 Helmsmen Toastmasters Club Meeting 2646 Minutes

Good morning Toastmasters,

Welcome guests Kim Winborne (invited by Earl White) and Sandrina Ray (invited by Bert Romero and Carl Sabath) for coming to our meeting today.  We hope you’ll decide to become members.

Business:

1) Thursday, July 19, Elizabeth Femrite, CL will be the Toastmaster of the Day and Lillian Wilkinson, CL will be Master Evaluator.

Speakers on deck:  Jim Adams, Royce Edington and Herman Raybon.

2)  We’ll meet in Room B7 for July 19 in the Pentagon Library and Conference Center.

3)  ****On July 26 — Note Room Change — we will be in Room M-4 on the upper level
in the Pentagon Library and Conference Center.

3)  Officers are Checking out the Toastmasters Leadership Institute and figuring out when they will attend their leadership training.  All members are invited to attend; it’s not just for officers.

4)  Bert Romero, CTM, CL is filling in and leading our Mentor Program;  if you already have a mentor you’re happy with or you wish to change mentors or you are new and you need a mentor, please let him know.

5)  Bert is a busy guy.  He is backfilling our VP-E and is trying to put together a chart of where everyone is with their Speech and Leadership goals.

6) Helpful Reminder:  Shaking Hands is the formal handoff of the lectern from one speaker to the next; so remember before taking over the lectern from another speaker and before relinquishing it to the next speaker,  shake hands.

7)  We are off to a new Toastmasters year which started July 1.  All Toastmasters Clubs try to meet the Goals of the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) for the year from July 1- June 30.  For the 2011-2012 year,  Helmsmen Toastmasters Club met 10 out of 10 goals, being one of only 14 clubs in District 27 to do that and be a President’s Distinguished Club.
Meeting 5 or 6 Goals – makes the Club — Distinguished
Meeting 7 or 8 Goals – makes the Club — Select Distinguished
Meeting 9 or 10 Goals – makes the Club — President’s Distinguished

Goal 1 –  Earn 2 Competent Communicator (CC) awards
Goal 2 – Earn 2 more CC’s
Goal 3 – Earn 1 Advanced Communicator – Bronze, Silver or Gold
Goal 4 – Earn 1 more ACB, ACS or ACG
Goal 5 – Earn 1 Competent Leader (CL), Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB), Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) or Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)
Goal 6 – Earn 1 more CL, ALB, ALS or DTM
Goal 7 – 4 New Members
Goal 8 – 4 more New Members
Goal 9 – (a) Officers Trained at Summer Toastmasters (June-August)Leadership Institute and
(b) Officers trained at Winter TLI (December-February)
Goal 10 – Submit Dues and Club Officer Lists on Time

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often so when you are ready to give your speech let the TM of the Day know even if you aren’t “scheduled.” We can almost always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Timer and many of the other duties.  Right after the Meeting or during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in your leadership book.
