2012-03-01 Helmsmen Toastmasters Club Meeting 2627 Minutes

Good Morning Toastmasters,

Welcome guests  Gwendolyn Brown, Clarence Lewis, Ken Aldridge, Leroy Posey
and Jean-Baptiste Wolf,  all from PFPA!

We hope you will all decide to join our club to improve your speaking,
thinking, listening and leadership skills.  Our VP-Membership Herman Raybon
will be sending you information.

Business

1) Elizabeth Femrite as Contest Chair will be coordinating who will be
Contestmaster for our International Speech and Evaluation Contests which
will be held next Tuesday, March 8.  We will be in Room B-1.

Elizabeth is still looking for contestants in the speech and evaluation
contests.  For the evaluation contest,  you need only be a member in good
standing (dues paid).  For the international speech contest, you should have
given 6 speeches.

Please give Elizabeth a call if you haven’t already done so.  This will be
an exciting meeting!

There are opportunities to receive credit for speech and leadership
activities!  Speech participants will get book evaluations and speech
credit.  Those who participate as Contestmasters also get credit.  Of course
there will also be opportunities for judges, timers, ballot counters,
sergeant at arms and a Model speaker (the speech used for the evaluation
contest)

2) March Madness and Dues Collection have begun.  Please make arrangements
to pay your renewal dues, $45, cash or check payable to Helmsmen
Toastmasters.  Notices were sent out already.  This covers your membership
from April 1 – September 30.  Seven members have already renewed.  Let’s
keep it going.   Remember we have a team of folks assisting in collecting
dues helping Treasurer Carl Sabath.  They are Elizabeth Femrite, Herman
Raybon and Jim Adams.

For brand new members,  your dues is $73 for March 1 – September 30.  You
pay a little extra to receive new member kits and then you’ll be on your way
to getting your Competent Communicator and Competent Leader goals met.

3) New website is here:  http://helmsmen.toastmastersclubs.org  If you have
suggestions to improve it, let us know.  Steve Hill had a great idea to put
special quotes on it — that’s one great Helmsmen idea.  I’m sure many folks
have additional ideas for the website.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often so when you are ready to give your speech let the TM of
the Day know even if you aren’t “scheduled.” We can almost always fit you
in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics
Master, Timer and many of the other duties.  Right after the Meeting or
during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small
evaluation in your leadership book.
