2011-08-11 Helmsmen Toastmasters Club Meeting 2601 Minutes

Good Afternoon Helmsmen,

Welcome to our guests Laura Strong, Alice Montgomery, Paul Cuyler, and
Stephanie Byrd! We hope you’ll join us at the next Toastmaster’s meeting.

Contest season is upon us. As our HTM President Beth Garcia indicated, we need to figure out the best date for the contest and try to get as much
participation as possible.

1) Which date (and alternative) you would prefer to hold the contests?

The date choices are as follows:

August 25
September 1
September 8
September 15

2) Would you like to participate as contestant for humorous speech and/or table topics?

All members are eligible; all speeches need to be in the usual 5-7 minute
format (no shorter than 4.5 minutes and no longer than 7.5 minutes). And all table topic responses need to be minimum 1 minute and no longer than 2.5 minutes.

3) Sometimes at the meeting immediately before the area contest (this year on Sep 21), we give the winning speaker an additional practice opportunity at the club.

Please provide your input by the next meeting (Aug 1Cool so we can make a decision soon.

Next week, for Meeting 2602, August 18, 2011, your Toastmaster of the Day will be Carl Sabath, and we’ll be in room B10! Please note the room change to B10 for next week (we were in room B7 this week and will be directly across in room B10 next week.)

Attached is the latest version of the meeting assignment sheet. You will
notice that our VP-Education has assigned ALL roles as out through the end of August. Also all TMOD, ME and Speakers are assigned through
mid-September. This is to enable everyone to look at their calendars and plan their roles/projects well in advance. Please review your assignments and ensure that there are no conflicts with your long range plans. If you notice conflicts, please forward them to our VP-E, Jim Adams at james.adams@js.pentagon.mil
and he will adjust the schedule.

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often so when you are ready to give your speech let the TM of the Day know even if you aren’t “scheduled.” We can almost always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Timer and many of the other duties. Right after the Meeting or during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a small evaluation in your leadership book.

Distinguished Club Program – The More We Do as Individuals, the More Goals Our Club Achieves. If you go to club central and go to Distinguished Club Program (DCP) reports, you can view the latest status of the goals for Helmsmen Toastmasters club.
