2011-07-07 Helmsmen Toastmasters Club Meeting 2596 Minutes

Hi All,

We had a great meeting with Brenda, our guest (Thank you , Bert!). Beth Garcia literally took the helm at Helmsmen Toastmasters and presided as Club President for the first time! An official turnover of officers will be coming soon once the new Area Governor can come and visit!

Next week, for Meeting 2597, July 14, 2011, your Toastmaster of the Day will be Elizabeth Femrite, we’ll be in room B10! Your Master Evaluator will be Carlton Hart. See the attached roster for scheduled assignments. Speakers Sheila Lane, Lilnell Small-Storm and David Grimaldo should email their speech numbers, titles, and objectives to Elizabeth Femrite along with some introductory information. Carlton Hart will be contacting those listed on the attached schedule that he needs to contact.

As Bert reminds us to use email and YOT (i.e.,Ye Old Telephone) — people do like the personal touch!

Great Helmsmen say, “Yes!” VP, Education Jim Adams has arranged a MEMBERSHIP DRIVE which will be held Friday, July 29, 6:30am-1pm. If you have half an hour or an hour that you can hand out flyers regarding our club, please email him. Membership building is everyone’s responsibility so if you can take a little time out of your day or lunch hour on July 29th, we will all benefit! By helping with the Membership Drive you can also get Club Leadership credit!

Elections are complete for the second half of the year, the following individuals have been sustained as our new officers for the next 6 month
President – Beth Garcia
VP Education – Jim Adams
VP Membership – Vacant
VP Public Relations – Carlton Hart

Treasurer – Carl Sabath
Sgt at Arms – Bert Romero

With two vacancies, if you are interested in fulfilling one of those roles (and get credit in your Competent Leadership syllabus), let us know!

Remember that officers are required to attend training so they get credit for their leadership positions. Free training is still available, I have attached the flyers with specifics (date/time/location). Check the

(NOTE: Since the District has split into District 27 and District 29, remember folks can attend training and get credit at either as long as they sign name, club name, number 2412, District 27,and office they are training for. Folks who have attended before can attend other officer training or electives to get credit as well. Some folks might also want to attend District 36 training which will be held at the Verizon Building, 13000 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD, July 9, 8:30am or District 29 training at the Verizon Campus in Ashburn at 8am, 22001 Loudon County Pkwy, Ashburn, VA)

Remember that you can always be on the “Hot seat” for last minute changes.

Things change often so when you are ready to give your speech let the TM of the Day know even if you aren’t “scheduled.” We can almost always fit you in!

You can get credit for being Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Table Topics master, Timer and many of the other duties. Right after the Meeting or during the meeting, ask your fellow Toastmaster to provide a
small evaluation in your leadership book.
